Commissions
I do commissioned quilts/artwork on a first come, first served basis.

Fees for making quilts are loosely based on the dimensions of the quilt and run from $275 to $500 per square foot. The techniques I use are factors in determining the cost with machine techniques costing less and hand techniques more. I do applique by both machine and hand, piecing by machine, and both hand and machine quilting. Cost of materials will be included in the price. If exotic fabrics are used the price of the quilt may be increased.

Some examples of how this pricing works:

  • A 1.5' by 2' wallhanging done in machine applique and machine quilting is 3' square. I would charge $275 per square foot for creating this piece. 3 x $275 = $825
  • A 2' by 3.5' wallhanging done in hand applique with machine appliqued background and machine quilted is 7 square feet. I would charge $325 per square foot. 7 x $325 = $2275
  • A 3' by 4' wallhanging with figures hand appliqued and background pieced with a mix of hand and machine quilting is 12 square feet. I would charge $375 per square foot depending on the amount of hand applique compared to background. 12 x $375 = $4,500
  • A 5' by 6' quilt that is all hand applique and hand quilting is 30 square feet and I would charge $500 a square foot for doing this quilt. 30 x $500 = $15,000

These are examples only - actual cost would be determined depending on complexity of design and the above mentioned factors. Larger quilts may actually be less per square foot. I am willing to do a top only for a discounted price with the buyer deciding how the top will be finished or quilted.

Consultation and discussing photo and design possibilites are free of charge. Actual drawing or pattern making will incur charges*. If a quilt is commissioned it will be paid for in the following manner: 1/3 the price of the quilt upon approval of pattern, 1/3 the price upon completion of the top and buyer’s approval of the work, and the final 1/3 of the price upon completion of the quilt. Deadlines for completion must be reasonable and agreed upon by both parties. My work goes slowly especially if it is by hand and will take time. Delivery of the quilt (within the continental United States) is included in the price.

* I also offer pattern making services if someone wishes to attempt creating a quilt from a pattern I have drawn. Cost for this service is $25.00/per hour and varies depending on if you want a simple pencil drawing or a complete and numbered pattern in ink.
